Pictures speak a thousand words. Here is some artwork on the Day of Ashura and the Tragedy of Karbala.

An Artist Representation of the Battle of Karbala.

The Battle of Karbala is often represented as the battle between good and evil or between light and darkness.

The small camp (left center) surrounded with a protective trench of fire is the camp of Imam Hussain (A.S.)

While Imam Hussain had only 72 men and his family by his side, the opposing army of the tyrant Yazid had, by some accounts, roughly around 30,000 soldiers.

Imam Hussain (A.S.) chose to fight the battle for justice and refused to kneel to the tyrant. It was a sacrifice for humanity--for people to remain free and to stand up against injustices no matter who is responsible for it.
